Middlesex Water Company (NASDAQ:MSEX) Analysts Are Pretty Bullish On The Stock After Recent Results

Simply Wall St.

Shareholders might have noticed that Middlesex Water Company (NASDAQ:MSEX) filed its first-quarter result this time last week. The early response was not positive, with shares down 4.2% to US$50.93 in the past week. Revenues came in 2.1% below expectations, at US$49m. Statutory earnings per share were relatively better off, with a per-share profit of US$0.57 being roughly in line with analyst estimates. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year. Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit. Taking into account the latest results, the consensus forecast from Middlesex Water's dual analysts is for revenues of US$214.5m in 2026. This reflects an okay 7.7% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to accumulate 6.7% to US$2.52. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$215.5m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$2.56 in 2026. So it's pretty clear that, although the analysts have updated their estimates, there's been no major change in expectations for the business following the latest results. Check out our latest analysis for Middlesex Water The consensus price target rose 7.1% to US$60.00despite there being no meaningful change to earnings estimates. It could be that the analystsare reflecting the predictability of Middlesex Water's earnings by assigning a price premium. Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. It's clear from the latest estimates that Middlesex Water's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 10% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2026 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 7.5% p.a. over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 6.7% per year. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Middlesex Water to grow faste...
