Biggest risk

Integration expense or disappointing synergies could offset growth, while the Q2 commercial-construction charge-off and higher year-to-date credit provision leave asset quality a live concern. A Q3 earnings beat or miss cannot be determined before a company release. [#PR-2026-08-20] (Q2 company release)

What would change my mind?

Pacific West could expand the Oregon franchise while Q2's lower deposit cost and continued book-value growth provide a base for per-share improvement. These are possibilities, not confirmed post-acquisition results. [#PR-2026-08-20] (Q2 company release)

Commentary

The October 19 anchor is a pre-release reference, not a measured post-earnings reaction. The company IR page still lists Q2 as the latest results, so Q3 surprise, market reaction and post-print analyst revisions are unavailable. The packet's unrelated Plumas Bancorp article is excluded. Low coverage and the unverified earnings date keep this a monitoring view despite the deterministic prior's stronger evidence-quality score and neutral direction.

Q3 results: first test after Pacific West acquisition
FS Bancorp's latest company-posted earnings release is for Q2, not Q3. Q2 net income was $7.9 million, or $1.04 per diluted share. The August 19 completion of the Pacific West acquisition makes its initial contribution and integration costs particularly relevant to the next report. An outside calendar estimates an October 20 release, but the company has not confirmed that date; no Q3 surprise, guidance change, analyst revision or post-release price reaction can yet be assessed. Credit costs and funding mix could determine earnings quality
2026-11-15
Q2 deposits fell 7.2% sequentially, mainly as brokered deposits declined, while the deposit cost eased to 2.18%. The company also reported a $2.3 million partial charge-off on one commercial construction loan. Whether lower-cost funding persists without renewed credit pressure is a specific test for the next results, not an established improvement. [#10-Q-2026-08-10] [#PR-2026-07-21] (Q2 company release)

Pacific West integration and discretionary repurchases
2027-08-24
FS Bancorp completed the Pacific West acquisition effective August 19 and authorized up to $5 million of repurchases through August 24, 2027. Realized integration benefits and actual buyback execution could support per-share value, but the company cautions that synergies may not materialize and the authorization obligates it to buy no shares. Risks

Pacific West integration costs may exceed expectations or anticipated benefits may not be realized. (completion release)
The $5 million repurchase authorization is discretionary, not a commitment to purchase shares. (repurchase release)
The Q2 $2.3 million partial commercial-construction charge-off and increased year-to-date provision expose credit risk. (Q2 company release)
The scheduled T+1 trigger dates earnings to October 19, but the company IR page still identifies Q2 as its latest results; the Q3 release and any guidance must be confirmed before treating this as a post-print assessment.
