Great Plains merger approvals and closing • 2027-03-31

Biggest risk

GAAP EPS, margin and efficiency deteriorated sequentially; nonperforming loans rose modestly. The adjusted EPS beat excludes acquisition costs, while reported revenue fell short of the cited consensus. Merger approvals, share issuance and integration add uncertainty. No verified post-print analyst rating, target or estimate revision is available. [#SEC-8K-2026-10-21] Company release filed with SEC; consensus comparison.

What would change my mind?

Q3 tangible book value rose to $33.31 per share, noninterest-bearing deposits improved, and adjusted EPS of $1.06 exceeded the $1.00 estimate cited by Investing.com. A successful Great Plains closing could expand scale and market reach. [#SEC-8K-2026-10-21] Company release filed with SEC; estimate comparison.

Commentary

The initial Q3 coverage is mixed: adjusted EPS beat the cited estimate, but revenue missed and the company reported weaker sequential margin and GAAP EPS. An intraday quote at 13:56 UTC on October 22 was $39.72, about 2.6% below the $40.76 October 21 anchor; this is provisional, not a closing reaction. No verified post-print analyst target or estimate revision was found. Social, options, short-interest and employee sentiment are unverified, so the zero placeholders above must not be interpreted as neutral measurements. Company release filed with SEC; consensus comparison; live quote page.

Great Plains merger approvals and closing
The proposed approximately $239.6 million all-stock acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2027, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. The planned issuance of about 5.57 million TCBX shares and integration of Great Plains make approval terms and execution material to the investment case; closing has not occurred. [#PR-MERGER-2026-10-07] SEC-filed joint release.

Next few weeks

Mixed third-quarter earnings digestion
2026-10-23
Third Coast reported Q3 GAAP diluted EPS of $0.93 and adjusted EPS of $1.06, versus $1.08 GAAP EPS in Q2. Net interest margin fell to 3.70% from 3.83%, and the efficiency ratio rose to 63.10% from 56.51%. Investing.com compared adjusted EPS with a $1.00 estimate but reported revenue of $65.86 million below its $66.83 million consensus. The initial interpretation is therefore mixed, not a clean operating beat. [#8-K-2026-10-21] [#SEC-8K-2026-10-21] Company release filed with SEC; consensus comparison.

Long-term Catalysts

Months to a year

Funding gains versus margin and credit pressure
2027-06-30
Noninterest-bearing deposits rose $78.4 million in Q3 to 12.2% of deposits, but margin contracted and nonperforming loans increased to $29.0 million from $27.1 million. Sustained funding improvement without further margin or credit deterioration would support tangible-book-value growth; this remains an unproven outcome rather than guidance. [#SEC-8K-2026-10-21] Company release filed with SEC.
